Danyl Interface Program
Version 3.6
Overview
The DANYL program is a DOS program. It is used to convert photocopy transactions from the Danyl QBACOL system or the Danyl Expense Logger system to be compatible with the Tabs3 Merge Data Capture Transactions program. If you are using the QBACOL system, the input file is named TRACRnnn.DAT, where the nnn is the copier number. If you are using the Expense Logger system, the input file is named TRACER.LGS.
If you are using the Danyl Expense Logger system, you can also convert disbursements into Tabs3. Because the Danyl disbursement codes may not be the same as the transaction codes in Tabs3, you will be allowed to specify up to 10 different Danyl disbursement codes and their corresponding Tabs3 equivalent. The DANYL conversion program will then translate the Danyl disbursement code into the appropriate Tabs3 transaction code for you.
If you are using the Danyl Expense Logger system, this program can also create a client verification data file named TRACER.CV2 that can be used by the Danyl System. This file will contain a record for each active client/matter that exists in the Tabs3 Client file.
Note: The DANYL interface program must reside in the same directory as the Tabs3 programs in order to work properly.
Note: The Create Validation Files program must be run before you can successfully use this data capture device interface program. The Create Validation Files program is found in Tabs3 by selecting the following menu options Maintenance|Integration|Create Validation Files. When creating validation files, select a Validation File Type of Data Capture Device.
If you are using the Danyl Expense Logger System, the Create Validation Files program in Tabs3 must also be run periodically before using the "CV" option (step 4 under Executing the DANYL Interface Program) so that new clients can be included in the client verification data file.
Note: This DOS program cannot be run under a 64-bit operating system. Although it can be installed on a 64-bit server, it must be run by a non-64-bit workstation.
Installation
The Danyl interface program (DANYL.EXE) must be transferred to the directory on your hard disk where the Tabs3 program files reside. This is done by using the INSTALL program on the Danyl interface program disk.
To install the Danyl interface program on your hard disk:
Executing the DANYL Interface Program
Use the following procedure for conversion:
DANYL
This program will not work if you are using a version of Tabs3 prior to 3.4.
Note: All the options entered above are stored in a parameter file named DANYL.PRM. Each time the DANYL program is executed, it will read the DANYL.PRM file and use those options automatically.
If you enter "Y" (for Yes when using the QBACOL system) or "CD" (for Convert Data when using the Expense Logger), the program will look for the input file (either TRACRnnn.DAT or TRACER.LGS) containing the Danyl devices data. If the input file is found to contain data, the program will display the message "Converting Transactions" followed by a count for each transaction read from the file. The files T3EXPKEY.REM and T3EXP.REM will be created which can be merged with the main Tabs3 data files. You must then start Tabs3 and run the Merge Data Capture Transactions program.
If you are using the Expense Logger system and you enter "CV" (for Create Verification File), the routine will create a client verification data file named TRACER.CV2. This file will contain a record for each active client/matter that exists in the Tabs3 Client file.
Note: If you are running Tabs3 Version 9, you must first run the Create Validation Files program in Tabs3 with the Data Capture Device option selected and the Client check box selected. If new validation files are not created in Tabs3 before creating validation files in DANYL, current client information will not be included in the new validation files for Danyl.
Important: Be sure to clear the transactions from your Danyl devices memory to avoid duplication of data merged with your Tabs3 files.
Note: If you are not using a demo version of the program, the input file (either TRACRnnn.DAT or TRACER.LGS) will automatically be deleted when the conversion is complete to avoid double posting of the data.
Note: You may change the photocopy transaction code used by the Danyl program by deleting the file DANYL.PRM which is created in your Tabs3 directory. This will enable you to go through the setup procedure described above in Step 3 as a first time user of the program.
