SUMMARY

Universal naming convention (UNC) is a standard method of naming files and other resources on a network. In Windows operating systems, the UNC format is:

\\servername\sharename\path\filename

The servername represents the name of the file server. The sharename normally identifies the volume or storage device that the file is on; however, printers and other devices can also be addressed using UNC. For example, a UNC of \\ACCTNG\Tabs3\TABS.EXE indicates the Tabs3 executable program file, TABS.EXE, is located in a folder named Tabs3 on the ACCTNG file server.

Universal naming conventions can be successfully used in all areas of Tabs3 and PracticeMaster software, including paths and desktop shortcuts.
