TRS ADD Transaction Conversion Program
Version 1.6
Overview
The TRSADD program is used to convert photocopy, postage, courier, fax and
miscellaneous expense transactions from a Transaction Recording Systems ADD unit
to be compatible with the Tabs3 Merge Capture Transactions program.
The TRSADD program must reside in the same directory as the Tabs3 programs in
order to work properly. The Tabs3 program directory can be found by starting
Tabs3 and selecting
Help | About Tabs3.
Note: The ADD unit's data Transaction Identification field must contain the
Tabs3 client/matter number with a " " character separating the client number
from the matter number (i.e. 200 03).
Note: This DOS program cannot be run under a 64-bit operating system. Although it can be installed on a 64-bit server,
it must be run from a non-64-bit workstation.
Installation
The TRSADD interface program (TRSADD.EXE) must be transferred to the directory
on your hard disk where the Tabs3 program files reside (otherwise you will get a
"FILE NOT FOUND" error message). This is done by using the SETUP program
on the TRSADD interface program CD.
To install the TRSADD interface program on your hard disk:
- Insert the TRSADD interface program CD into your CD drive.
- The installation program will automatically start.
Note: If the CD Autorun feature is disabled, click the Start
button, and then click Run… Click the Browse button and
navigate to the CD drive. Double-click the LAUNCH.EXE file.
Click OK.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software onto your hard
disk.
Executing the TRSADD Interface program
Use the following procedure for conversion:
- Transfer the data from your ADD data capture device to your computer's
hard disk. The data must reside in a file named TRSADD.DAT in the same
directory as the Tabs3 program files.
Note: The data can be transferred from the ADD unit to your computer
using TRS's ADD1DUMP communication program available from Transaction
Recording Systems.
- From a DOS prompt, start the interface program by entering:
TRSADD
- The first time you run the TRSADD program, you will be asked to enter
the Tabs3 transaction code number that you use for photocopy charges along
with the cost per copy. Once you specify the transaction code number, the
TRSADD program will use that same number each time you run the TRSADD
program. You can also specify the Tabs3 transaction code numbers used for
postage, courier, fax and miscellaneous charges. If you do not use your TRS
ADD unit to capture one or more of these charges, then enter zero when
prompted for the Tabs3 transaction code.
- Next, you will be asked "Is it OK to continue? (Y/N)". If you enter "N"
the program will be aborted. If you enter "Y" the program will look for the
TRSADD.DAT file containing the ADD device's data. If the TRSADD.DAT file is
found to contain data, the program will display the message "Converting
Transactions" followed by a "." for each transaction read from the file. The
files T3EXPKEY.REM, T3EXP.REM and T3EDESC1.REM will be created which can be
merged with the main Tabs3 data files. You must then startup Tabs3 and run
the Import Data from Data Capture Devices program.
Important: Be sure to clear the transactions from your ADD device's
memory to avoid duplication of data merged with your Tabs3 files.
Note: If you are not using a demo version of the program, the
TRSADD.DAT file will automatically be deleted when the TRS program is done to
avoid double posting of the data.
Note: You may change any transaction code or the copier charge in the
future by deleting the file TRSADD.PRM which is created in your Tabs3 directory
during Step 3 above. This will enable you to go through the setup procedure
described above in Step 3 as a first time user of the program.
