Instructions to Upgrade/Downgrade to a Level of Tabs3
with Fewer Timekeepers

The level of Tabs3 that you are installing allows fewer timekeepers than the level of Tabs3 you currently are using. Before installing this newer level of Tabs3, do the following:

  1. Write the maximum number of timekeepers allowed in the new version of Tabs3 in the space provided:  _______.  This number can be found on your invoice (i.e., 2, 5, 9, 19 or 99).
  2. Print a Timekeeper List.
  3. Identify the largest timekeeper number on the Timekeeper List. Write this number in the space provided:  _______.
  4. Compare this number with the maximum number of timekeepers allowed in the new version (as shown in step #1).
  5. If the largest timekeeper number on the Timekeeper List (step #3) is less than or equal to the maximum allowed (step #1), then no renumbering of timekeepers is required and you can skip the rest of these instructions.

If the largest timekeeper number on the Timekeeper List (step #3) is greater than the maximum allowed (step #1), then the timekeepers MUST be renumbered. Renumbering of timekeepers can be done before or after the installation/conversion.

Note:  The Data File Integrity Check will encounter error 95s (invalid timekeeper) if there are any verification lists with the old timekeeper number. Any verification lists with the old timekeeper number should first be printed and then deleted to prevent these errors from occurring.

Renumbering Timekeepers After Installing/Converting

Once you’ve converted/installed Tabs3, if your Tabs3 data contains timekeeper numbers greater than the new limit, a message similar to the following will be displayed when you first start Tabs3: The timekeeper limit of _____ specified for the Tabs3 system is larger than the allowable limit of _____.  You will need to renumber all timekeepers which are assigned a number over ____ before they will be accessible using the Tabs3 system.  Print a list of defined timekeepers to determine if any renumbering needs to be done.

If this message is displayed when Tabs3 is started, print a list of timekeepers (if you don’t have a current list) and renumber the higher timekeeper numbers at this time.

DO NOT IGNORE THIS RENUMBERING MESSAGE!!

You MUST renumber the timekeepers at this time. This is the only time the software will let you access the higher numbered timekeepers. Failure to renumber timekeepers will result in having to restore from a backup and reinstall/reconvert or have Software Technology, Inc. fix your data for a fee.
