This document provides technical information about how to set up TABS III in order to facilitate the export of information to the format required by Intel. Please review this document carefully before attempting to export data for Intel matters.

There are several fields required for Intel that are not in TABS III. The fields are the Intel Matter Number and Intel Serial Number. During configuration, you are given the choice of where to store these fields in the TABS III client file. Available locations include miscellaneous lines 1-3, beginning statement notes lines 1-4, ending statement notes line 1-4, and client notes lines 1-150. If you are not required to provide information for the Intel Serial Number, select the option "field not used" when configuring TASKBILL. You will have to make sure to set up all of your Intel matters the same way so this field is not missing in the electronic data file for any individual matters.

The Intel Matter Title will be converted from a combination of text found in the TABS III Work Description, Miscellaneous Line 1, and Miscellaneous Line 2. A single space will be inserted between the Work Description and Miscellaneous Line 1, and between Miscellaneous Line 1 and Miscellaneous Line 2.

The Billing Type and Billing Description fields must be entered as part of the TABS III fee and cost descriptions. Each field must be surrounded by a pair of "[" and "]" characters. The TASKBILL program will extract the fields from the description, put them in the correct location in the export file, and erase them from the description. It will be up to you to make sure to enter the Billing Type field before the Billing Description field. Following are some examples of what descriptions might look like:

Tip: You may want to enter all the Billing Types and Billing Descriptions as TABS III text macros to help speed up the entry of these fields.

After the TASKBILL Program has finished exporting the billing information from TABS III, you will need to import the data into Microsoft Excel. Be sure to import it as a delimited file, and make sure the only delimiter selected is the comma.
