Whats New in PracticeMaster Version 10.7
Palm Conduits
-
PracticeMaster Version 10.7 includes new Palm Conduits that can be used
to synchronize Palm data with PracticeMaster data. The new Palm Conduits
provide simple one-button synchronization of data. Data is synchronized
both ways at the same time. Once the Palm Conduits are configured, synchronizing
information is as simple as placing the Palm in its cradle and pressing
the HotSync button.
-
Conduits are provided for the Palm Address Book, Date Book and To Do List
to integrate with the following PracticeMaster data:

components. Enter a date in Palm and its synchronized to PracticeMaster.
Enter a task in PracticeMaster and its synchronized to your Palm. Enter
a contact in your Palm, and its synchronized to the Related Party file
in PracticeMaster. Related Parties synchronize both ways. Clients also
synchronize both directions; however, new clients can only be added in
PracticeMaster.
-
The new Palm Conduits include the ability to add entries on the Palm to
the Date Book and To Do List for other users and have those entries synchronized
to PracticeMaster.
-
Sophisticated configuration lets you synchronize multiple Palm users on
the same workstation. It includes the ability to configure different preferences
for each Palm user from the same computer.
-
You can configure how you want conflicts synchronized, in the event the
same record has been modified on both the Palm and in PracticeMaster (i.e.,
use the PracticeMaster record, use the Palm record or create a copy of
both records).

Palm Conduit vs. PracticeMaster Palm Application
The following items are useful for comparing the differences between the
Palm Conduit and the PracticeMaster Palm Application. Additionally, STIs
Knowledge Base includes an article that compares and contrasts the various
different methods of integration with Palm OS compatible handhelds in article
R10663 Comparing Programs that Integrate with a Handheld. STIs Knowledge
Base can be found on the Internet at: support.SoftwareTechnology.biz.
-
Synchronization occurs automatically when using the new Palm Conduit. Simply
place your handheld in the cradle and press the HotSync button. The PracticeMaster
Palm Application requires separate procedures that have to be run every
time you want to synchronize your data.
-
The new Palm Conduit synchronizes Dates and To Do entries both ways for
other users. The PracticeMaster Palm Application synchronizes other users
calendar entries to the Palm only.
-
When using the Palm Conduit and adding a calendar record for a client, you have
to assign the date record to a client by entering the Client ID in the Palm Note field.
When adding a calendar record for a client using the Palm Application, you
can assign the date record to a client by selecting the client from a list.
-
The new Palm Conduit uses the familiar built-in Palm Address Book, Date
Book and To Do List for data entry. The PracticeMaster Palm Application
installs separate programs onto the Palm for data entry of tasks, events,
related parties, and clients.
-
As a result of using the built-in programs on the Palm, the synchronization
process is substantially faster when using the Palm Conduit as opposed
to the PracticeMaster Palm Application.
-
The new Palm Conduit synchronizes changes made to clients in the Palm Address
Book back to PracticeMaster. The PracticeMaster Palm Application does not
allow changes to clients.
-
The new Palm Conduit has extremely sophisticated filtering capabilities
so you can define exactly what information you want synchronized.
-
The new Palm Conduit lets you use any Palm Desktop User with any STI User
ID. The PracticeMaster Palm Application requires that the Palm Desktop
User Name matched the STI User ID (i.e., 8 character limit with no spaces
or special characters).
-
The new Palm Conduit offers greater flexibility for the handling of conflicts
caused by editing the same record on both the handheld and PracticeMaster.
You can configure the Palm Conduit to automatically use the Palm value,
the PracticeMaster value, or make a copy of both records. With the PracticeMaster
Palm Application, changes made in PracticeMaster automatically overwrite
the information on the Palm.
Miscellaneous Enhancements
View Menu
-
Added an Error Log and a Reset Log menu option to the View | Log Files
menu allowing you to easily view and print the corresponding log files.
-
Moved the Support Log menu option to the View | Log Files menu option.
Active User List
-
Added the ability for managers to optionally view the status of all users
in all STI software instead of having to view this information from STI
System Configuration.
-
Added the ability to reset selected users by allowing you to select more
than one record in the list. Previously, you had to reset users individually
or reset all users.
Enhanced Error Troubleshooting
-
Added links to the errors listed in the Errors online Help topic that access
the corresponding STI Knowledge Base articles on the Internet (support.SoftwareTechnology.biz).
Extensive troubleshooting information is provided in the Knowledge Base
for each specific error.
STI System Configuration
-
Built in Temporary Backup and Restore Programs - Added the ability to make
a temporary backup of the STI System Configuration data files from within
the software using the new Back Up Data Files program. The backup file
is created in a BACKUP subdirectory below the program directory. The
new Restore Data Files program allows you to restore the temporary backup.
Only one backup file is maintained. The backup procedure is a temporary
backup and is intended not to replace, but rather supplement, existing
backup procedures.
